The evening started on the patio with a string quartet playing as guests arrived. The bride and groom joined their guests outside for cocktails and the sunset before the doors opened into the ballroom. It was a relaxed and genuinely beautiful way to begin the night before things moved inside and the energy shifted.
The night had a lot of moving parts. Apart from the Grand Entrance and speeches there was a trivia host from one of the couple's favorite spots in Los Angeles who ran a game that had the room completely engaged. He had me cue music in between categories to keep everything lively. The crowd knew each other well and that kind of familiarity combined with a game format is a great way to warm a room up before the dancing starts.
I provided uplighting set to blush throughout the ballroom to match the wedding colors, and set up a projector and screen that played a montage the couple sent me. Little touches like that change the feel of a room and the guests noticed.
The ballroom at Regent is long with the dance floor positioned at one end. Getting the speaker placement right in a room with that layout takes some thought. I positioned my speakers all the way at the far end of the dance floor which kept the sound focused where it needed to be and let the rest of the room breathe during dinner. When the dancing started it felt natural and contained rather than overwhelming the whole space.
The wedding planner was Debbie at
Aquafuzion who also provided the beautiful florals. If you're in the early stages of planning a wedding at Regent, Debbie knows this property well and such a genuinely sweet person with a wonderful team behind her.
The night before, I DJ'd the couple's karaoke party after their rehearsal dinner at a restaurant on
Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Getting two events with the same couple on back to back nights is always fun because by the time the wedding came around everyone was warmed up and ready to go.
